Val Lanes was established in 1957 by the Essy family. What was once a 24 lane bowling center, Val Lanes then added 12 more lanes in 1959 to provide hours of entertainment to the West Des Moines community. Patrick & Rose Essy purchased Val Lanes in 1990 and change the name to Val Lanes Recreation Center. A center to provide entertainment for people of ALL ages. Changes are always happening at Val Lanes. 2002 remodeling included a new video game room, concourse, carpet, seating and bowling areas. 2003 brought us new state-of-the-art AUTOMATIC SCORING and AUTOMATED BUMPERS, and in 2004, we installed new ball returns on the approach and on the pinsetters.
