Chicago Speakeasy

The food in general was mediocre and the service was down-right pathetic. The fat old lady at the front has an attitude problem. The prime rib was good but it does not outweigh the bad service. If you want something classy, this is NOT the place.

Never ate here but will give it a try, have had the prime at Phil‘s and the person who said it‘s nasty...obvious you‘ve never eaten there been there several times it‘s excellent perfectly done rare to medium rare the only way prime rib should be done. If you like it over done mid well to well sure your going to call it nasty. John and Nicks is like eating rubber, Greenbriar has slipped alot also, skip‘s and Nicks prime is also very chewy.

First time visit and very happy with food, service and atmosphere. The salad bar was incredibly fresh and chock full of homemade salads. The seafood lasagna was rich and tasty and the new york strip cooked perfect. We‘ll be back!

without a doubt the best prime rib in Iowa and maybe the midwest is at alittle bar on swanson blvd called Phil‘s this guy know‘s what he‘s doing I‘VE ATE PRIME ALL OVER THE COUNTRY NOTHING COMPARES! The rib at chicago speakeasy and John &Nicks is shoe leather compared to Phil‘s!!! Try it only on Fridays and get there early Starts at 5pm and gone by 6-630 and get this 20ozs $20!!!!! Check it out you‘ll never eat it anywhere else!!!!! Oh n that place can‘t remember the whole name (says alot) somebody‘s dish on the west side don‘t waste your time over priced and awful!!!

Always so good and can‘t beat the salad bar. They even have pickled herring on the salad bar. We go once a month or more

We love this place! Great food, great service, wonderful salad bar, wonderful atmosphere, background music takes you back to Satchmo, Frankie, etc.

Been going to Speakeasy for 9 years, been a favorite of my wife and I. We went there on one of our first dates before the remodel. Since then we have been married, seen the remodel, now we await our first child....speakeasy has always been a staple of our relationship. No sign of change here!

They are back to there cheap meat again. Bad cheap meat. They do this when times are tough. Been going over 25 yrs and never again. 93 dollar crap meal.

Great salad bar, best pea salad ever found in a restaurant. Love the pork ribs(Wed night feature), can‘t wait to have them again.

A friend reccommended this place andI‘m glad he did! Now I crave their grilled chicken alfredo, and OMG the pina colada salad on their salad bar- better than my grandmas! Everyone is so friendly there too.

Chicago Speakeasy is a fantastic place to eat, if you love pasta,steaks,prime rib and a really nice salad bar.then you‘ll love this restaurant. They have an excellent waiting staff and a nice bar. I really enjoyed my days going there on my birthday.

We had a party of 47, and they did a great job taking care of us rowdy people!. Kudos to the Speakeasy for such a perfect experience.

This restaurant is amazing! The salad bar is legendary, and the steaks are delicious. If you like fish, get the Orange Ruffie. I‘ve never had bad service, and the food is always great!

We have been going for years and love it! They recently added Steak DeBurgo to their menu and it melted in my mouth! We love this place :)

Went there on Sunday and they were not open. I believe it says open 3-10. Won‘t be going back as wasted a drive and there was no sign why they were not open.

This is our favorite restaurant! We go at least twice a month. My son loves the prime-rib and my husband and I love the sirloin steak. The salad bar is like no other we have been to. We love the black-eyed pea salad and the pickled herring!!!

We love this restaurant! Been going for almost 30 years. The last few months we have gone on a Saturday night and enjoyed listening to the live saxaphone player they have in the lounge. We appreciate the fact that this restaurant has been exceptional in keeping the consistency of excellent food, service and atmosphere. We wish there were 3 more Speakeasy‘s in town.

My partner got sick from eating the Prime Rib or salad bar. An hour after getting home he was on the toilet throwing up and diarhea.

Will not eat here again and will tell others about the food poisioning incident.

I just read the last comment written about terrible meat, and I could not disagree more! We go to the Speakeasy once or twice a month and always have steak or prime rib and it is always outstanding. Obviously they are doing something right- they are packed all the time. Chicago Speakeasy- if you read these comments on this site, don‘t listen to such nonsense from one misguided individual, we, as well as most of the city remain very loyal to your wonderful restaurant!! Please don‘t change a thing!!

Been going there for almost 30 yrs every week. The last 6 mos all the meat is terrible. The staff said they changed cuts to a much cheaper cut. When customers complain they say the "kids" that took over dont care. We the public need to show them we do care and stop going there. We made it what it is and we need to let them know that. They ran of the long time employees that made the place special and now they are running the customers off too.

We love the Chicago Speakeasy for the Prime Rib. It is always good and is very reasonable for what you get, especially on Monday nights when the Prime Rib is on special. They have great drinks and a great atmosphere.

I think they have the best grilled salmon in town, and my husband loves the prime rib. We brought my parents from California to dinner and they said it was the best food they had all year. They wish they had a Chicago Speakeasy!

The cozy ambiance and great food and salad bar make this our favorite place to eat in Des Moines. We live in West Des Moines and can eat anywhere over there, but we would rather travel to the north end of town than have cookie-cutter food at all those chains! Kudos to the Speakeasy!

My husband and I go to the Chicpago Speakeasy every year for our Anniversary. Have been for almost 20 yrs. They have the best prime rib in Des Moines. The salad bar is out of this world.

I have been going her for over 15 years and the service, food, and the new environment couldnt be better!!!! We eat here at least once a month if not more.

Have ate their for years. Was real disapointed last 4 times going in. steaks were tough prime had a funny taste,
the lady at the front was rude as hell, the nice big blonde lady cant be found. salad bar was great as always. wont be back

if you like prime rib and scarface go, if your weak and cant handle bloody 19oz prime rib. stay if west des moines. the prime rib by the way called the "big al" dont be scared

The little girl at the front door was extremely rude. prime rib was tough. the server didnt keep our drinks full had to ask for refills. was not a good experience!!!!
