The Trattoria

Okay, I‘ve eaten at the Trattoria at least a dozen times in my life... not saying that it‘s a freaking five star restaurant or anything, but I believe that it is one of the coolest spots in all of Des Moines.

I don‘t know what got into that last reviewer, but I LOVE the Trattoria. I‘ve always had good food, not necessarily great food, but the service has always been superior, the wine has always been above average and the ambiance, classy.

First of all, it‘s in a basement of an old apartment building. It takes a creative crew to make something out of nothing. It‘s decked out with your stereotypical Italian-American ivy and lattice, but the colors and tables are warm and inviting. Secondly, it‘s FAMILY OWNED. The money you spend stays in Des Moines... It‘s not like going to the Cheesecake Factory or McDonalds or something where the money you spend goes several hundred miles away. Here, at least you‘re supporting local business!

In sum, I‘d highly recommend the Trattoria. Never judge any restaurant by just one experience there.

Dining with friends last night and had the WORST restaurant experience I have ever had. Got there at 7:30, didn‘t get food until 9:30! We didn‘t get our check until 10:15 and when we complained we were not offered a single appolgy and the owner came to our table and told us it was our fault that we came on a busy night. We were a party of six WITH reservations. No appology, no discounts. They argued with us loudly in front of the whole restaurant. Horrible service. Horrible staff. Don‘t eat there!
